Oakville Post Office closes

United States Postal Service has transferred all operations to the Yountville Post Office, where Oakville patrons are now directed to pick up their mail

Currently operating out of trailer behind Oakville Grocery, the Oakville Post Office is now closed after a lease deal with property owner Jean-Charles Boisset apparently could not be worked out.

Effective immediately, the Oakville Post Office is closed and its operations transferred to the Yountville Post Office.

"This temporary transfer is due to the loss of a lease agreement and will continue until another permanent location is identified by the United States Postal Service," the the United States Postal Service said in a letter emailed to the Yountville Sun on Thursday.

The Yountville Sun reported in early April that postal officials were looking for a new location for the Oakville Post Office, which has served the rural hamlet for more than 167 years.

At that time, property owner Jean-Charles Boisset said that he was working on a remodel of the property that included a permanent home for the post office, and that he was in talks with postal officials about the deal.

"We are actively looking for a new building that can accommodate all of our services as well as provide exceptional service to our customers," USPS wrote in their June 27 letter. "Please accept our sincere apology for any inconvenience this matter may have caused you. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you at another location."

The USPS shared the following information and said patrons should not change their Post Office Box Number, City or Zip Code during "this temporary adjustment to operations."

Patrons should bring identification with them when coming to the Yountville Post Office for their mail.

Yountville Post Office Hours of Operation:

Location: 6514 Washington St., Yountville, 94599
